This script was played as a recording on a cd player as part of the installaton.

As the room got brighter Edward realized everything could be dependant on time and scale. Whilst searching around with his eyes he asked Carl…

Edward; “Do you not understand what I mean at all?”

Carl; “Not really”

Carl said.

Carl; “I prefer to reflect on things using situations and happenings as an example”.

Edward; “Yes but this is happening, we can use any detail we admire as an example of this” Edward explained.

Carl; “Maybe, but can’t our position be affected by geometry and all the other technical subjects?”

Edward; “No, we need them for comparison, otherwise there is no point”.

Carl; “Okay, so explain it to me one more time”.

Edward; “Well, if you think about positioning everything you encounter on some sort of scale then in some instances drawing a circle could be the same as someone not talking for three days”.

Carl appeared shocked

Carl; “You’re always thinking of these new revelations”.

Edward; “But there’s nothing new about it; we all generally behave in this manner without realizing it”.

Carl; “Yes but even if we do does it make sense to treat everything with so much consideration. It’s almost as if you have to consult your awareness before you think and speak”.

Edward; “That’s exactly what I mean” Edward said eagerly. “It’s all relative”.

Carl; “Do you mean like everything has a certain value, but does not cost anything?”

Edward; “Not exactly, I don’t think everything does consist of a value; well not unless you grant it one”.

Carl; “Okay well I’m lost again”.

Carl said with a nonchalant tone.

Edward; “It’s because you’re not allowing yourself to believe it… which is easily done. If you just sit and thought about it for a while you’d understand”.

Carl; “But I have done at least 12 times over… and I still don’t get it!”

Edward; “You will do”. Edward interrupted. “Even seeing the lines in front of you, you could easily imagine them in relation to one another and as a whole or part image. Their widths and lengths could be a question of culture or appreciation.”

Carl; “Yes but they could just help make up the grid of a square”

Edward; “Well not necessarily, a chain tale wouldn’t match that”.

Carl slowly admitted.

Carl; “I don’t even know what a chain tale is”

Edward; “Oh, well it is something that is based on a characteristic series of numbers and things like objects, characters, days of the week, events etc in specific relation.

Carl; “What, so things that follow on in an order?”

Edward; “Yeah, I suppose so. Everything has some sort of order, just like how you wait your next turn. But chain tales involve a very specific one. There’s that one about the origin of chess, involving numbers in geometric progression. You know where the inventor of chess asked in payment one grain of wheat for the first square, two for the second, four for the third, eight for the fourth etc etc so no one could produce the great amount to buy the whole thing.

Carl; “hmm I guess it makes some sense but I just can’t picture living like that”.

Edward; “You don’t have to because you already do”

Carl looked carefully at Edward

Carl; Look, I’m sorry but I just can’t see any relevance in this.

Edward sighed and began explaining to Carl.
